What is the biggest color story for makeup in 2022?
Since Pantone’s announcement that the 2022 Colour of the Year would be Very Peri (a periwinkle with some violet, red hue undertones), I have not been able to get this colour out of my head! I definitely see this colour taking over beauty this year – especially with the return of Euphoria. I remember when the show first launched and everyone was recreating looks from the show, there was so much purple! Super excited to play around with some fun liner looks and smokey eyes with this colour.
What popular beauty trend do you see fading away this year?
Eyelash Extensions. Take it from someone who had lash extensions for 5+ years and is finally giving her eyes the break they deserve. The pandemic was an opportunity for many of us to embrace our natural beauty. Of course, there are solutions for those who adore the effect and look that lash extensions provide, like Falsies for those nights and occasions where you’re looking for a little more impact, Lash Lift and Tint which is way less harmful and gives off the same effect as extensions, and of course, a mascara that suits your lash needs. My current fave is L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Noir Balm Mascara, it’s the first mascara with a built-in balm that really works to condition and moisture for healthier looking lashes. It’s also made with 99% natural origin ingredients! #CleanBeauty
What is the biggest beauty pitfall that people should try to avoid when it comes to makeup in 2022?
Less is more! A perfect example of this is with concealer. We used to be taught to draw triangles under our eyes and fill it in entirely with product and apply concealer basically all over our faces. The reality with concealer is, a little goes a long way! Finding the right concealer with the right applicator is key, my personal favorite is L’Oréal Paris Infallible Full Wear Concealer. The doe-foot applicator makes it so easy for product to be applied exactly where I need it, which for me is just a tiny bit under my eye in a sweeping motion, and then a little bit from the corner of my eye upwards, almost as if I’m doing a winged liner with my concealer. I personally find this really helps to brighten and complete the look!
How do you see skincare trending in 2022?
I see more than ever that the “Skinification of Makeup” is really taking over. In 2021, we really learned the importance and benefits of what it means to build our own personal skincare routines and stick to them. Now as we begin to transition back into wearing makeup daily, and especially in Montreal during the Winter – we know that ingredients are everything! I have two amazing products that have really made the transition back to makeup easy for me – the first is True Match Super Blendable foundation. This product is enhanced with Hyaluronic Acid and my skin feels instantly hydrated once I’ve applied it. The next product when I’m looking for something a little more lightweight and glowy, True Match Nude Tinted Serum is my best friend. It’s is also formulated with 1% Hyaluronic Acid to give my skin the same effect. The hyaluronic acid infused with lightweight mineral pigments leave the skin feeling hydrated and plump while giving you natural radiant coverage. Using products like these as a base for the face, instantly ensures that a bright complexion will radiate through anything else I choose to apply!
What 5 beauty products should everyone carry with them in 2022?
I love this question! I also love to see other answers as I’m always curious to know what peoples must-haves are in their makeup bags. Here’s mine:
SPF! I cannot live without this – and yes, it’s still important to wear SPF daily even when you think there is no sun.
Lip Balm – essential ALWAYS! Cold winter months and even hot summers (I would use a lip balm with SPF in the summer), a good lip balm is a girls best friend!
Cream Blush – many have always found blush overrated, but I’m the type of person who will wear cream blush on a no makeup day to add a little life to my skin! It also doubles up as a lip tint.
Mascara – something more everyday that’s also super buildable. For me, it would probably be L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Original Mascara.
Hydrating Serum – my personal favorite is the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power LZR 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum. (Fun fact: it’s the number one serum in the world!)
Who do you foresee as a beauty icon in 2022?
We’ve seen her all over Tik Tok and Instagram in 2021 – and I think 2022 will be even bigger! Stephanie Valentine also known as “Glamzilla” is personally the biggest beauty icon to me. Her honest reviews and first impressions have really allowed her to pave the way in the beauty industry, and for many, including myself, I am under her spell! I can’t tell you how many items I’ve purchased because of her 5-star reviews and tutorials. We saw it a lot in 2021, but honesty and authenticity are so important in this industry, and when it comes to holding the title of being an “Influencer”, that’s all people want! Honesty! I think Stephanie really understands this and knows her audience. I look forward to seeing her grow even more in this new year.
Favorite makeup/skincare hack?
I can answer this question for days! I’ve picked up so many hacks over the years, and I feel like I am also learning a new beauty hack every time I open Tik Tok! My favorite skincare hack is to apply skincare products – post cleansing, to damp skin. This takes your routine even further and really allows you to get more out of your products and your skin! I love this hack because it traps even more moisture into the skin and gives me such a dewy glow. My most used and probably favorite beauty hack is multi-use products – I’ll often use my bronzer to not only define my cheekbones and warm up my face, but also to add a little dimension in my crease for a monochromatic look!
Where do you see lip color going for 2022? Nudes? Reds? Browns? Pinks?
My favorite lip trend that I think we’ll be seeing in 2022 is your lips but better! Especially considering that masks will be a part of our lives for the next while, using colours close to your natural lip shade to enhance is always a go-to for me. One of my current lip favorites is L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick in 800 Fairest Nude.
