How did you get involved with content creation and what drew you to it specifically?
When I was 17 I enlisted in the military and while I was in I yearned for a creative outlet. When I got out of the military I decided to start pursuing content creation. I was drawn to content creation because it was an accessible creative outlet.
What are your thoughts on representation in the gaming industry?
The gaming industry is fairly new therefore there are still ways to go as far as representation is concerned. Over the last year there has been a push towards diversity and it shows. However, there is still a long way to go.
Being a woman and a woman of color puts me in a place where I am a "double" minority. However, I use this to my advantage to stand out and shine!
How has being a POC impacted your experience in the gaming sphere?
I enjoy being a POC in the gaming sphere. Like I previously said, I think that it enables me to stand out and shine. There are many people that look like me that enjoy gaming, so when they find me they feel safe and feel at home.
What does BHM mean to you on a personal level?
Black History Month is a celebration of our perseverance and excellence. It shines a light on how powerful and influential the black community is. Only 55 years ago Martin Luther King was leading efforts for black people to be able to sit at the same table as non-POC. That was not a long time ago! In fact, it is safe to say everyone knows at least one person that was alive during the 1960s.
Considering that fact and how far black people have come, it is a true testament to black excellence!
What is something you would personally like to see change in terms of diversity in content creation?
Diversity in content creation is more than hiring a person of color for a campaign. It is treating us with the same level of respect as non-POC. For example, paying equity within the gaming/content creator community.
