Dulcedo’s Senior Talent Agent Alex Melendez was profiled this month by the Moorestown News. In the article, he shares his unique career trajectory and how he identified an opportunity to parlay his skills into becoming the head of the Gaming and Entertainment division at Dulcedo.

Some highlights from the profile below!

From athlete to agent:

While growing up, Alex was a big sports fan and had aspirations for pursuing a career as a professional athlete, but life had other plans for him.

“I realized very quickly that genetically that [becoming an athlete] was not in the cards for me. I was not going to be a basketball or football player, so I thought the next best thing was to be a sports agent.”

What began with an a background in business at the University of Tampa turned into a dream of studying at Villanova Law where there was a well-respected sports law program, which soon became a reality (with a scholarship, to boot!).

Through his studies, Alex realized that becoming a sports agent wasn't a path he wanted to continue to pursue. He had greater aspirations than working at a corporate law firm, which included making a mark on the lives of others in a way that only he uniquely could. Enter his other personal passion: gaming.

“[While studying at Villanova University's Charles Widger School of Law], I realized that influencers and content creators are the next generation. You see kids all the time now playing video games and trying to be content creators (and) influencers on social media, and I realized that they didn’t have proper representation.”

To truly understand the intricacies of the gaming community, Alex immersed himself even further into the space and started to take note about what these creators said about agencies and the content creator economy. These insights helped elevate his understanding of how to best support and elevate talent as he embarked on his career.

The creators he represents:

YouTube and TikTok streamer Halite was the first content creator Alex started working with in his independent endeavour as talent agent, but soon after was able to grow his roster to include other talented and industry-disruptive creators.

“It’s super important for me to find creators who have content that’s unique and not typical stuff. My creators, a lot of them are storytellers. They’re people that can see something and give. They truly value educating and giving people good content for the younger generation, because they want to make a difference in their lives, because a lot of them grew up watching creators themselves who helped them get out of a dark place.”

Although Alex's talent roster at face value consists of gamers and content creators who are sketch comedians and or entertainers, they are also individuals who are as equally motivated as he is in uplifting others and trying to make a positive impact on the world around them.

To supercharge both his career, and ensure his talent was getting in front of the right opportunities, Alex knew that the next logical step was to join a dynamic agency aligned with his vision for the future of content creators. It should come as no surprise that the agency Alex joined was none other than Dulcedo!

His advice for others:

“You just have to not listen or worry about what other people think of you, and just kind of ignore everything and just take the risks that other people might think are not the best at the time, but if you believe in yourself and you’re confident, it will work out for you.”

Now leading the Gaming and Entertainment division at Dulcedo, Alex is proof that trusting your gut, taking leaps of faith, pursuing your passions, and believing in yourself and in others is the ultimate key to success.
