When Rocky Stoutenburgh — better known as @RockyNoHands — first picked up a controller again after his spinal cord injury, he wasn’t looking to make history. He just wanted to play. Today, with over one million followers, three Guinness World Records, and a global community inspired by his story, Rocky has become one of gaming’s most powerful voices for accessibility and perseverance.

This month, Rocky was profiled in the September issue of SIA Magazine, where he opened up about his journey from injury to streaming success.

At 19, Rocky sustained a C3-C4 spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Years later, thanks to his brother and a mouth-operated controller called the QuadStick, he rediscovered gaming — and, in time, his sense of purpose.

Once I started going live, things took off, people were surprised to see someone with no hand function playing games at a competitive level.

Clips of his gameplay quickly went viral, and what started as a way to play again evolved into a movement.

Rocky’s rise has been marked by milestones: becoming the first-ever quadriplegic to sign with an esports organization, breaking Guinness World Records for Fortnite wins and kills using only his mouth, and building a digital community that spans Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, and beyond. But for Rocky, the biggest reward isn’t the titles.

The best part is hearing from people who say my content inspired them. Some are gamers with disabilities. Some just needed a reminder not to give up. Messages like that are what keep me going.

Now 38, Rocky continues to push the limits of adaptive gaming and accessibility, all while sharing his story with the audiences who need it most. What began as a personal comeback has become something much bigger.
