About
Before becoming the face of USA Women’s Hockey and the first-ever draft pick in the PWHL, Taylor Heise was convinced her future was in basketball. Growing up, the Heise household was always tuned into NBA games, with Taylor and her brother cheering on their favorite teams. Despite being from Minnesota, a state synonymous with hockey, Taylor didn’t start skating until she was eight years old—a late start for most hockey players. However, her natural athleticism and fierce determination allowed her to catch up quickly. What she lacked in experience, she made up for with skill and an unwavering drive to succeed. Her rapid rise through the youth hockey ranks earned her a spot with the Minnesota Gophers.
In 2022, Heise's game reached new heights. She won the Patty Kazmaier Award, given to the top NCAA women’s hockey player, and led Team USA to a standout performance at the IIHF Women’s World Championships. Scoring 18 points—the most by any player in nearly 30 years—Heise was named World Championships MVP and Best Forward. It was clear: Taylor Heise was no longer just a rising star—she was now one of the game's elite players. In 2023, Heise won her first gold medal with Team USA at the World Championships, solidifying her place among the sport’s best. Just five months later, she was selected first overall in the inaugural PWHL Draft by her hometown Minnesota team. In her rookie season, she led her team to the Inaugural League Championship, earning Playoff MVP honors along the way.
As the 2025 Milan Olympics approach, Heise is ready to take her game to the world’s biggest stage. With Hilary Knight as both a mentor and a friend, Taylor is poised to carry on the legacy of excellence that has defined USA Women’s Hockey for years. She’s not just looking to step into the spotlight—she’s aiming to help lead the next generation of talent and continue the tradition of success for Team USA. From basketball dreams to becoming one of the brightest stars in women’s hockey, Taylor Heise’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. And with everything she’s already accomplished, it’s clear this is just the beginning of an extraordinary career.
