Pro Hockey Player

Luke Prokop made history in July 2020 as the first player under NHL contract to come out as gay. A prospect for the Nashville Predators, Luke currently plays in the WHL while he works his way up to the team that drafted him. Being the first player to come out meant that Luke had to pave his own way, build his own support system and trust himself with the decisions he made. His journey hasn't been easy but through it Luke has been able to inspire a new generation of players, showing them that you can be yourself and own your sexuality, and still play hockey. Luke is an advocate for the LGBTQ2S+ community and works tirelessly to promote diversity and inclusion in the game. While this past year has been challenging for the community in the world of hockey, Luke truly believes that one day hockey will be for everyone. In a league where most players stick to the norm, Luke isn't afraid to speak up and has helped change the viewpoint of many league executives and teammates by simply being himself. A well-spoken, hard working and talented defenseman, Luke is a natural leader on and off the ice.
